I have a problem with stories; namely, the beginning-middle-end thing. I recently heard writer Steven Dietz say, “Stories happen to the people who tell them.” I want to be one of those people, so stories and I need to come to terms.
I gave myself an assignment. Every day, write down a story of something that happened in the past 24 hours. Doesn’t have to be big. Doesn’t have to be interesting. Just has to be true. And written down quickly. No fussing.
On day 4 of this exercise, I realized that although I was scribbling the stories down in a notebook I wasn’t telling them. That’s where you, dear gentle virtual reader, come in. Thank you for completing the circle. Some of your comments help me to polish these drafts into final products. And some are stories in themselves, which is even better.
